It allows you to read the position of the leadscrew and crosslide to three and one-half decimal places (.005") and either axis can be reset to a zero reading at any time with the push of a button. Now you can dial in dimensions larger than.050" (1mm) without having to keep track of the number o handwheel rotations. If you use your lathe as a mill with the vertical milling attachment, you can purchase a 3 axis DRO kit. If you add a 2-axis DRO to your lathe now and later purchase a vertical milling column, you can purchase a kit to add the third DRO handwheel and sensor at that time.
