Everyone owns an electric drill. Most of us have several. The reason is we make a lot of holes in just about everything. They come in all shapes and sizes. While 3/8” drills are the most common, you might want to consider a ½” drill for the extra power and the ability to handle larger bits. There is nothing more frustrating, when you have to drill a ½” or larger hole and the drill bit won’t fit in the drill.
